A lot of these appear to be in the grip of the handicapper, either that or they just didn't fire on the day, and it doesn't appeal as strong form generally for all that the first 2 are ones that have slipped in the weights.

ANONYMOUS JOHN (IRE) was third in a more competitive race than this at Haydock 4 days earlier and justified strong market to take advantaged of his reduced mark this time; chased leaders, pushed along halfway, led over 1f out, found plenty; it was this same time last year that he gained the first leg of a hat-trick of wins and he's one to be interested in again next time.

EVENING ATTIRE is interesting from this sort of mark, 11 lb lower than he started the season, and built on the more encouraging signs of his run at Yarmouth 7 weeks earlier; prominent, took strong hold, challenged over 2f out, kept on final 1f; he should remain competitive.

LUCY THE PAINTER (IRE) summed up by handicap mark but at least bounced back to form after a couple of disappointing efforts; mid-division, headway 2f out, chased leader inside final 1f, kept on.

JIMMY'S HALL is handicapped to the hilt but ran well on form; raced off the pace, outpaced, headway over 1f out, stuck to task.

DIVINE CALL was up against it from out of the handicap, better off in a lower-grade event, but just 2 days after Bath he wasted no time getting back to form; dwelt, raced well off the pace, best work finish, never nearer.

AUSPICION back down at a sprint trip, took a step back in the right direction but whether he'll be in the same mood next time is another matter; chased leaders, keeping on when bumped over 1f out, one paced.

HEARTSONG (IRE) little in hand from present mark after 2 recent wins and probably not in quite the same form he was for those, not disgraced here but beaten on merit and never really threatened to take a hand; mid-division, effort over 2f out, weakened approaching final 1f.

WHOZTHECAT (IRE) was below form after a couple of good efforts, no obvious reason for it, just not quite on his game; chased leaders, driven 2f out, faded.

FEELING EASY (IRE) is struggling for form at present; mid-division, went with little fluency, never a threat.

PIAZON merely underlined inconsistency after a more encouraging effort 11 days earlier, though with some mitigation having reportedly bled; dwelt, in rear, progress 2f out, effort flattened out, looked half-hearted; best treated with caution.

MARMALADY (IRE) ran poorly, failed to come on for recent run; chased leader, weakened 2f out, not persevered with once held; she is back to her last winning mark (set to be lower next time) and can't be written off because of that.

PAL OF THE CAT might have needed run after 16 months off, probably best at 5f too, but to have missed so long there must have been a problem with him and next run will no doubt reveal more as to where he stands; led until over 2f out, weakened.
