With the top weight running from a mark well below the ceiling and several failing to repeat their recent efforts, it's hard to escape the view that this is just ordinary form for the grade, while the pace was steady for a long way too, not really picking up until the fourth last.

THEATREBAR bounced back to form with his yard in sparkling form, this about as good as he's ever been, though it proved a weak race by 0-140 standards; tracked pace, untidy fifth, led on bridle 3 out, tackled approaching last, asserted final 100 yds; remains to be seen if able to back this up.

SIMPLY A LEGEND after a further 11 weeks off and without the hood, ran up to his best, the winner better positioned throughout; patiently ridden, pecked fourth, crept closer 5 out, loomed up 3 out, every chance last, kept on; lightly raced for his age and should continue to run well.

CORNBOROUGH who usually goes well at this track, did so again despite not being seen to best effect in a steadily-run race; held up, headway when not clear run approaching 3 out, challenged 2 out, kept on but lacked the pace of first pair.

DUBAI ANGEL (IRE) confirmed his return to form to a certain degree, particularly as he'd have benefited from a stronger gallop, and he's one to keep an eye on with even 0-120s now set to be open to him; chased leaders, not settle fully, edged ahead briefly early in straight, awkward last, faded.

BECKY THE THATCHER looked rusty after 3 months off which was accentuated by a steady gallop under much firmer conditions; mid-field, shaken up sixth, lost place 4 out, no threat after, merely ed beaten horses.

DESERT ISLAND DUSK wasn't in the same form as last time, a bit out of his pay grade even in a weak 0-140; in touch, lost ground briefly fifth, left behind from 3 out.

GOLDEN JEFFREY (SWI) returned from a break not in the same form as he was pre-Christmas, looking a tricky ride; led, raced freely, headed entering straight, looked awkward and dropped away.

THOSEDAYSAREGONE (IRE) back over hurdles, was the second of the stable's runners on the card to run no sort of race (said to be lame); pressed leader, lost place 4 out, soon done with.
