This looks solid form by late-October class 4 standards, the winner taking advantage of a handy mark at the expense of a younger rival seeking a hat-trick and ahead of another who'd won a race this autumn, all underpinned by a sound gallop to boot.

AUSTRIAN THEORY (IRE) took advantage of a further drop in the weights (mark 10 lb lower than at the start of the year) to get the better of a thriving 3-y-o; tracked pace, challenged under 2f out, led approaching last ½f, stayed on well; this seems like solid form and he would have to merit respect if seen again this autumn.

INAPPROPRIATE (IRE) came up a little short in pursuit of the hat-trick but shaped as if still on a handy mark with a move that took him past the winner for a while, proving himself versatile with regards underfoot conditions in the process; mid-division, travelled fluently, steady headway from 3f out, led over 1f out, headed approaching last ½f, kept on.

TIPSY TIGER ran creditably, looking worth another try at 1½m on this evidence; patiently ridden, headway under pressure over 2f out, plugged on; worth another try at 1½m.

PADDY THE SQUIRE is proven under similar conditons and was in first-time cheekpieces and down appreciably in grade, but couldn't make that count; chased leader, driven around 3f out, one paced.

SPIRIT OF ACKLAM failed to come on for recent run, going backwards in fact, not that he shaped badly, probably asked to do a bit much in front; led until over 1f out, edged right, no extra; low mileage and still one to be positive about.

MAGNETIC NORTH (IRE) back on turf after 7 weeks off, failed to come on for stable debut; awkward leaving stalls, raced off the pace, labouring 3f out.

SHAMRAN whose Salisbury win has worked out fairly well, had missed 8 weeks since then, was easy to back and was unable to handle conditions, beaten well before the longer trip came into play; settled in touch, pushed along 4f out, labouring under 3f out, left behind quickly.
