A good pot to say only the 4-timer seeking Curley Finger could boast a BHA mark above 113, Susan Corbett the main beneficiary as she saddled the 1-2 in a race that rewarded prominent tactics around this tight track, the favourite doing well in that regard from some way back; Sanosuke was withdrawn after proving unruly at the start.

VELASCO (IRE) defied a reassessed mark another 3 lb higher in these calmer waters, a third win in his last 4 outings and fourth in all this season in a career-best campaign for a trainer who also saddled the runner-up; disputed lead, edged ahead approaching last, clear entering final 1f, closed down by stablemate final 50 yds but far enough ahead by then.

CHAMP ROYAL (FR) had his winning sequence halted at 3 whilst leaving the impression he isn't done with yet, 16 lb higher than when winning over C&D before Christmas but shaping all the same as if a less positive ride didn't bring his stamina into it quite enough; tracked pace, outpaced early in straight, rallied very well from 2 out, closed to line and finished with running left.

CURLEY FINGER (IRE) was possibly just undone by a further 5 lb rise in the weights for all getting taken on for the lead wasn't ideal; helped force pace, not always fluent, ridden from 3 out, lost ground approaching last, one paced.

JEM IN EM (IRE) remains in good form, doing well under the circumstances having found himself further back than ideal this time; raced off the pace, behind still 4 out, effort from home turn, blundered 3 out, stayed on; his running style suggests a switch to positive tactics is at least worth a try.

NOT STAYING LONG (IRE) didn't get home, odd considering her 25f win at Ayr also came on heavy ground, though that had been a much softer race against her own sex; travelled better than most, tracked pace out wide, third still 3 out, faded.

DEQUALL isn't one to be interested in; mid-field, raced lazily, outpaced 4 out, no threat after.

CARDAMON HILL (IRE) failed to build on the better signs from here 6 weeks earlier; waited with, mistake tenth, in touch after next, weakened approaching straight.

LINCOLN BURROWS (IRE) made it back-to-back poor runs since his Newcastle win; raced off the pace, typically not fluent, struggling back straight.

CALL ME HARRY (IRE) ran his first poor race in a while, possibly unsuited by conditions; dropped out, ridden 4 out, no response.
