The exit of the front runner removed one big player and hampered his main market rival among others, ensuring this middle-of-the-road handicap took less winning than it ought to have.

SEAN OG (IRE) belied understandable market weakness for a yard anything but noted for winners following a lay-off (nigh-on 4 years since its last jumps winner returning from break of at least 3 months), getting right back on track to record his first success away from Cartmel; settled in touch, chased leader circuit out, left in front 4 out, kicked on next, responded well.

FROM THE ASHES (IRE) is threatening to come good soon, well backed but not seen to very best effect as he met trouble faced with what appeared as sharp a test as he finds suitable; held up, closing when hampered 4 out, pressed leader home turn, not quicken 2 out, rallied gradually.

ONE MORE STROKE (IRE) might have been undone by even a token rise in the weights (easy to back), though this slightly stiffer stamina test possibly wasn't in his favour, either; waited with, left second soon after 4 out, pushed along 3 out, run out of second flat.

EAST STREET (IRE) failed to show the same zip as he had at Plumpton, going as if his heart isn't in it again; raced off the pace, typically raced lazily, headway under pressure out wide after 4 out, dropped away straight.
