The profiles of several of these suggest it's a race that ought to work out, but the bare form shouldn't be taken literally, the progressive winner doing well to get there from off an ordinary gallop, while some of those that were close up suffered interference, the second and third at the hands of the errant Batal Zabeel and the fifth squeezed out by the runner-up and fourth.

MYTHICAL PHOENIX (IRE) found one too good once more but is shaping up well and just needs a change of luck to go one better, nothing wrong with his attitude despite some uncomfortable looking form figures, the bump he took off the front runner arguably costing him more than the ground he was beaten; close up, pushed along over 2f out, led over 1f out, bumped soon after, headed late on.

ABERAMA GOLD won his next 2, including the Stewards' Cup, after shaping well in this race last year and is threatening to come good again soon - he might have won this with a clear age - his mark fully 7 lb lower now than when beaten less than a length in a big field at the Craven meeting; mid-field, travelled well, pushed along 2f out, headway when bumped entering final 1f, ran on.

THE CALTONIAN isn't quite so good on turf as all-weather, but he's holding his form well again now off this lower mark and it would be a surprise if he doesn't take advantage at some stage; slowly into stride, mid-field, headway over 2f out, plugged on.

TWILIGHT ROMANCE taking on his elders for this first time, was back on firmer ground and wasted no time getting back on track, unlucky not to finish a length or so closer as well; prominent, pushed along over 2f out, keeping on when snatched up final 100 yds, not recover.

CATHERINE CHROI (IRE) shaped as if back in form but wasn't seen to best effect given her early position/failure to settle, seeing things out surpisingly well; raced off the pace, pulled hard, ridden 2f out, late headway.

BATAL ZABEEL (IRE) failed to repeat last effort against his elders for the first time, his response to pressure raising further concerns over his temperament; led, took strong hold, pushed along over 2f out, headed when wandered badly and bumped 2 rivals 1f out, weakened.

DARE TO HOPE (IRE) found run of good form coming to a halt; prominent, pushed along soon after halfway, struggling when hampered inside final 1f, not persevered with once held.

JUMP THE GUN (IRE) is easy to oppose despite a sliding mark; dwelt, chased leaders, pushed along over 2f out, found little.

TINTO back in headgear, ran poorly; raced off the pace, pushed along halfway, never involved.

CALL ME GINGER is yet to fire this season; held up, pushed along before halfway, left behind 2f out.
